250K Books to Donate in NYC
New York Public Library, New York, NY May 25, 2022

Through a generous gift from the NY Public Library, Our Kids Read will donate between 100K and 250K books, from July 2022 through September 2023, to communities in Harlem, the Bronx and Staten Island. Books will largely be pulled from the NY Public Library “2021 Best Books for Kids” list which all feature a diverse cast of characters. Special thanks to the NY Public Library for involving us as one of their community partners.

Washington Rose Elementary Book Donation and Storytelling
Washington Rose Elementary School, Long Island, NY December 3, 2021

Thanks for the warm welcome we received from Washington Rose Elementary School! The students created an amazing poster welcoming Our Kids Read and were the best behaved of any school we’ve visited to date. Had a blast reading to the 2nd and 3rd grade class. Special thanks to Myrleen Springer, our very first Our Kids Read supporter and volunteer since 2019 and her superstar sister and teacher Tayana Thadal.

What a wonderful group of teachers and administrators at Holy Innocents Episcopal School! And our donation of books to the Lower School seems to be in good hands, what an amazing library! Thanks to all that made us feel welcome today (it’s a special day, the birthday of the organization’s original benefactor, Dr. Obiagele Lake). We look forward to growing the relationship with HIES.

Gorman Crossing Book Donation
Gorman Crossing Elementary School, Laurel, MD August 17, 2021

No better way to begin the Our Kids Read book donations around the country than to start with the school my children have attended for a combined ten (10) years. Thanks to the Gorman Crossing staff that facilitated the donation, Ami Holden, Jayme Brewrink, Deborah Holmes, Cheryl Keane and Jennifer Lechner.
